A New Jersey fluke fishing tournament in its second year went off without a hitch, according to the Asbury Park Press. Fluke, or summer flounder, were caught by fishermen on some 60 boats in a competition sponsored by the Recreational Fishing Alliance.

Fishing took place from the borough of Barnegat Light to the City of Brigantine. Some fishing teams reported waves shifting against the winds and had to deal with slimy seaweed that fouled their hooks.

Still, many flukes were to be found in the surf and anglers noticed earlier fluke runs than usual. The winning fluke fishing team had a two fish total that weighed more than 13 pounds.
